Aglianico Wines from Italy Choose Liquor Group

Liquor Group Wholesale was recently selected to distribute the Cantina di Venosa Italian wines imported by Miami based San Valentino Imports in the Florida & Illinois markets.  Cantina di Venosa is a growers' association of some 500 members controlling 900 hectares of vineyards in the southern Italian region of Basilicata.  The association specializes in and is the largest producer of the Aglianico Del Vulture a distinctive and ancient varietal.

Aglianico vines were fist brought to Italy by the ancient Greeks and flourished in the valley near the Vulture volcano from which the local varietal takes its name.  This grape is considered a precursor of the Nebbiolo grape from which many of the famous wines of the Piedmonte region are produced.  The rich volcanic soils of the Vulture valley are the ideal environment for the growth of the varietal and results in highly regarded wines that pair well with a variety of richly flavored meat and cheese dishes. The initial offerings from Cantina di Venosa include their Vignali 2005, Terre di Orazio 2004 and Carato Venusio 2004, all richly flavored reds that exemplify the true varietal characteristics of this recently re-popularized ancient grape.
