The Roaring 20’s began with prohibition
in 1920 and ended with the stock market crash in 1929. Everyone was listening to Louie Armstrong and
Jelly Roll Morton or off dancing the Charleston. The silent film industry in Jacksonville was
booming. Chinese food was becoming
popular and drinks were served in bathtubs.
The 20’s saw the arrival of the flapper, speakeasies, gangsters and
independent filmmaking. The crowd got to
relive the roaring 20’s at the 2010 Jacksonville Film Festival’s Happy Rum
Gala.
